To gain followers on Twitter, it’s important to improve your twitter profile by being relevant with as much customization as possible.
#1 – Change the profile picture from the default
I call them blue-heads. People who follow you but haven’t taken the time to update their profile picture. Online marketing is a visual platform. Make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Once you are logged into twitter, go to the wheel in the top right, and click on ‘Edit Profile’:
#2 – Customize your Profile
Once you click on this, you should customize as much as possible. In the title, the importance of customization is clear:
This information appears on your public profile, search results, and beyond.
Change your photo, add a header, put in your location, modify your bio, and connect to Facebook.
When adding your profile picture and your header, you can adjust and zoom in on the photo for the best appearance possible.
Now you will want to rock your bio. Mashable has a pretty good article on how to do that here. Short version, make sure you’re concise, accurate, and relevant while not too ‘maven’ or ‘expert’. Focus on what you do, how you help, and why people should follow you back.
Then click done, and that’s it! Click on the ‘Me’ button at the top to see how your profile now looks. IF you’re happy, you’re done!
#3 – Settings
However, if you want to add a little more style and flair, you can go back up to the top and click on the wheel, and click on ‘Settings’:
Then on the left hand side, click on ‘Design’.
You can select from one of the stock backgrounds, or if this is for your company, you should customize it with themeleon.
Or if you prefer, you can simply change the background of your image yourself by scrolling down and uploading a picture by clicking on the change background button:
Then clicking on save. There have been some glitches in the past when uploading different pictures. If you can’t get your background to save, try a different browser. Firefox or Chrome tend to work best.
And you’re done!
Happy Marketing!
